vista is a real resource hog i would go back to windows xp atleast until they get there act together and get vista working better.

but you could try updating your video card drivers and direct x but im sure vista comes already with the latest directX so i doubt that is the cause. its just the operating system your using. alot of games its not compatible with for one and others it runs like poop.

i would google your computer and see if the hardware is compatible with windows xp. or goto the manufacture site and say you want to downgrade to xp and they should send you a restore cd with xp for free.

now you see why people hate vista. very seldom i hear someone say they like vista. and when they do you ask them why and its the GUI graphical user interface the operating system is pretty pretty.

pretty pretty dont make it stable stable.

you can also set up a dual or multi boot. and select windows xp or vista as the computer boots up. google dual boot xp and vista. you can also have linux on there so choose from ubuntu xp or vista as the computer boots.

ubuntu is a free linux operating system that you will never get virus or spyware on it. comes with a firewall built in now and also sets up a multi or dual boot for you with the cd. its one of the best distros out there right now. i am trying to have them make a application cd release with it. thats my current thing im trying to help them make giving them a list of programs to add on it. thats the only draw back to ubuntu it does not come with everything just the best and most common things.

but you can look into that at http://ubuntu.com

only thing is you wont be able to play games using linux. thats the big draw back of it has very low compatibility at the moment. maybe in the future that will change
